Delta Information

Delta Facts

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is a natural treasure and a vital link in the state's water system, spanning Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, and Yolo counties in northern California at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. The Delta is in jeopardy of collapse as a result of the state's increasing population, demand for water and changing environmental conditions, as well as a number of other factors.

The BDCP is part of a comprehensive plan for Delta sustainability to avert ecological disaster and maintain reliable water supplies. The plan is consistent with the California Water Plan and the Delta Vision's Blue Ribbon Task Force recommendations. The California Department of Water Resources maintains a website outlining the various Delta programs aimed at contributing to the sustainability of the Delta.
